A Day In My Life as I Live It

I have just returned to my room tonight after a most unbelievable dinner with Drs. Rodan and Fields, along with about 150 of the most incredible leaders I’ve met to date.  I walked into the room, kicked off my 4 inch heels and literally began to weep because of what we were given this evening.

I don’t even know where to begin!!!!

We arrived in Phoenix at 11:30 this morning…about 15 of us were on the same flight and had such a ball…sharing Rodan + Fields with the flight crew and passengers! The hotel is gorgeous. My room is on the 6th floor and I have a view of the mountains outside my balcony. I’ve just come in from a great reception tonight after an incredible afternoon…and we’ve just begun.

For those of you who haven’t joined my business team, you’re receiving this email because now is the time to seriously…and I mean SERIOUSLY consider this business opportunity with Drs. There are about 150 of us here for the Inaugural Leadership Conference. This afternoon we had a brief introduction to leadership training and there are a few snippets I want to share from our corporate trainer and special speaker/author Natalyn Lewis:

    • Burn excuses…do or don’t do…there is no try!  The way you do anything is the way you do everything

Later this evening, I had the privilege of meeting our new VP of Sales, Christian Diaz. He has just joined the company this week from a very successful career with Amway. He’s going to bust open the Spanish-speaking market in 2009! I’ve met many other corporate staff who I talk to on a regular basis…it’s been great to put a face with a name…Natalie, Lindsey, Lori Bush, and others. But I will say that tonight was definitely the highlight…as I got on the elevator to go downstairs, the doors opened and who do you think was on the elevator? YEP, that’s right…the two and only…Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields. I stepped on and said, “Well, you two sure do look familiar!” We had a great short conversation on the way down…and, YES, they are just as beautiful in person as they are in all the photos! How cool was that? I got to see them before anyone else! 

So then, I made my way to the meeting room for our opportunity presentation and noticed some empty seats on the front row, so I went and grabbed one for me and another for Tracie (my business partner and upline). Well, who do you think next to us? Yep, right again…the doctors! So, we got to interact with them on and off all through the evening. Awesome.

During an amazing opportunity presentation we heard the stories of several leaders in our company…those who lost jobs, whose husband’s were ill and out of work, those who had never worked, those who were nurses and doctors…it was more and more apparent to me that this business opportunity is literally changing lives!!! The doctors were sitting there in awe as they watched their vision unfold for this company. THIS is why they pulled R+F from retail…to change the financial lives of so many who NEEDED this opportunity. WOW.

Afterwards, we had a reception and were able to mingle and meet other leaders from around the country. It was great to hear their stories and share our experiences together. I’m telling you guys…there is such a massive opportunity here!!! Most of the leaders here are from Michigan, Nashville, California and a few scattered around Alabama, Illinois and Florida. So, I was standing around a table with several other ladies (and Joe, my male recruit and one of about 5 men here!), when Dr. Fields walked into the room. She stopped at our table and I asked her for a photo with us, which she graciously agreed. After posing with us for 4 different camera shots, she began a conversation with our group and hung out with us for the next 10 minutes. She reiterated how thrilled she was that this company was actually changing lives, which is what she and Dr. Rodan wanted all along. Then she looked at us and said, “You guys…think BIG. I’m telling you, THINK BIG.” There are only 10,000 dermatologists in the country…TEN THOUSAND!!! Even fewer than I thought! The doctors have literally brought dermatology to the masses and into our homes! So, needless to say I’m on cloud nine and anticipating the new information that tomorrow will bring.

On the plane, I read ½ of a book called Beach Money. Every one of us needs to read this book! One statement that resonates throughout the book is this: You always get what you focus on. And here are three things I keep hearing and reading about what to focus on in this business:

1. Get a few distributers
2. Get a few customers
3. Help your distributers get started doing the same thing

Think where your business could be this time next year if you followed that simple system!!!!! Stay tuned for more news from Phoenix…we’re about to hear some incredible announcements so I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’ve just returned home from dinner with a great old friend.  This day has been a great day of meetings with people I know and enjoy.  Sharing Rodan+Fields was included in each meeting, with great results and the possibility of 2 new business partners!  This is awesome!!  And one I didn’t even plan to share the business opportunity with!  WOW, just goes to show, you CANNOT prejudge anyone!

I’m gearing up for my trip to Phoenix on Friday.  Meeting Drs. Rodan and Fields…so excited to see first hand what these ladies are all about.  About 60 business partners from Nashville are going, which is incredible.  We’re going to have such a great time together and I know we’re going to hear some exciting news all weekend long!  I cannot wait for the getaway and for this opportunity!!!

God is good…and I was reminded of that again today.  I am a single mom and I have everything I NEED.  God has provided a nice home, a warm bed, food for our bellies and warm clothes for our bodies.  Heat during this cold winter, a nice vehicle, the opportunity to live in one of the greatest towns in America and to have precious friends and family.  A wonderful community.  The opportunity to work for myself and not for someone else.  The ability to spend extra time with Will that would otherwise be spent at a desk in some office somewhere.  The blessing of good health and sound mind (usually).  The incredible privilege to be MOM to one of the most incredible and awesome kids in the world. 

Thanks, LORD, for your provision and blessing over my life.  And thank you for the abundance you will continue to bestow on my family and my household!  You are GOOD!!

I’ve been reading Dream Big, a book about network marketing.  There have been so many great points throughout the book, that I’m sharing them with my team little by little.  I think my biggest challenge is fear.  Fear of rejection.  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of failure.  Fear of objection. 

Here’s an excerpt from the book on this subject:

Four ways to build confidence and overcome fear:

1.       Stop listening to negative people.  Start listening to successful people in your business who tell you it can be done and you can do it

2.       Build upon your success.  Use past failure as your springboard to success.  With each accomplishment recognize and acknowledge your success.  Give yourself a pat on the back!

3.       Face your fears.  Identify what challenges you the most.  Get some advice from your leaders.  You’ll probably find they, too, faced the same fears and overcame them.  You can, too!

4.       Flush the guilt.  Get rid of it!  get over it!  Forgive yourself and others and move on.  Look forward not backward.  Keep your eyes on your dream.

Of course, these tips are true.  Once I get going and face my fear head on, the fear subsides and I have victory.  I’ve recently achieved the feat of not listening to negative people and let them affect the way I think.  That has been huge for me. 

With Rodan+Fields, I have the confidence to know that this company is incredible, the product line is unmatched, and the business opportunity is one that only comes along once in a lifetime.  I believe in what I’m doing and it has made all the difference in the world.  Those who don’t “get it”, are not bad or mean people.  They just don’t get it.  And that’s okay.

After nearly six months away from a formal church setting, Will and I went to church today at the People’s Church.  Huge pro:  less than 1 mile from home.  Another pro:  Will’s friend goes there.  So we went…stepped out of our house church setting and went to church.  For the first time ever, I’m looking for a new church to call home.  I grew up in the same church all my life, then moved here and met my then soon-to-be husband so quickly I ended up at his church for the next 7 years.  Then, after divorce, I walked into the church where we spent the last 6 years up until July of last year.  So, I’ve not had to do this before.  And now I have a whole new perspective on what it’s like.  It’s a HUGE decision.

I found myself this morning observing everything ver closely.  How the parking situation worked.  How we were greeted.  How we were assisted in finding our way.  How Will was greeted at Kids Connection, even though we didn’t stay there.  How the service went.  How the pastor was.  How the worship was.  I read every word of the church bulletin, looking for what kinds of things they offer.  I have a lot of questions after my last experience, so it’s a big deal.  Much bigger than I ever imagined.

We left the service and I was less than enchanted.  I’m not sure what I expected.  Maybe I was too busy taking it all in.  I’ll give it a second chance.

Well, it’s been quite an interesting day!  It all started when we awoke to 9 degree temperatures outside!!!  SO cold our pond must have a good 4 inches of ice over the top and you can barely see the waterfall.  But, the birds still attempted to navigate the ice to find water to drink…not without slipping and sliding first.  It was so cute and entertaining.  No school today.  They say it was too cold for school.  Unbelievable.  Will was ecstatic, of course!

So, I went into the kitchen to make my morning shake and as I pressed the water dispenser on the refrigerator, nothing happened.  Not a drop of water.  That was not a good sign.  I immediately knew the problem.  Frozen pipe.  Great.  My house is on a slab so most of the plumbing is under the house in concrete…except for the water line to the water/ice maker.  And it was frozen.  Alright, I thought.  What’s the first step here?  I stood there thinking about my options.  Call a plumber?  Turn off the water? 

Fortunately, we have this wonderful thing called the internet!  So, I Googled what to do with a frozen water line, and found some suggestions.  Hair dryer.  Space heater.  Warm wrags.  Alright, that was a start.  So, then I Googled plumbers in Frankln and called one to ask for advice.  It was similar, so I felt good about that.  The only problem was that I had no space heaters.  The pipe section in the attic runs about 10 feet and then down the wall between the kitchen and garage…who knew where the freezing point was?  So, I called around, posted a status update on Facebook, and finally got ahold of Sandy…they had THREE space heaters.  BINGO!  So I raced over there and picked them up.

When I got home, I bundled up (it was 10 degrees by now) and braced myself for spending who knows how long in the attic trying to warm up a pipe!  I tore the wall panel off in the garage and placed a heater there first.  Then headed up to the attic with my flashlight, hair dryer and another space heater.  Once up there I inspected the line for any signs of bulging, praying the whole time that eveything would be in tact.  It was.  So, I turned on the heater and pulled the insulation away from the pipe to expose it.

I went downstairs and into the kitchen to test the water dispenser…a couple drops came out, that was it.  But it was more than the first time, so I had hope.  It wasn’t an hour later that I tried again.  This time a fast drip.  I held it open for several seconds and a little more water started to flow.  Within a minute, I had full pressure back and water flow like it was meant to be!!!  What a relief!!!  Thank you, God for that answered prayer!!!

I didn’t want this happening EVER again, so Will and I jumped in the car and ran over to Home Depot.  Turns out they make this cord that has a heating element inside it…you attach it to the pipe, and plug it in.  A thermostat on the cord detects the temperature and when it gets below 38 degrees, the heating element activates, preventing the pipe from freezing!  How cool is that?

So, once home with our supplies, I went back up into the attic (after checking water pressure again just to be sure…all was good) with the pipe warmer and put it in place.  It was a simple job.  The trickiest part was balancing on the wooden trusses to avoid falling through the ceiling. 

I checked the water flow periodically throughout the day, and all is well.  I should wake up tomorrow to normal, cozy pipes!

You know, this was definitely a day when a husband sure would’ve come in handy.  But, having no husband, I was forced to figure it out.  And I did.  It’s amazing what we can do when we don’t have a choice.  A lot more than expected, that’s for sure!

I just shared the following information with my R+F team, and just had to post it here…

I spent about 3 hours today with some of our business partners here in Nashville and MAN do I have news for you!!!!  If you aren’t serious about this business yet, you’d better be after you read this!!!  Ladies and Gentlemen…we are sitting on a GOLD MINE!!!!  Here’s what I know as of today:

I just got off a great conference call with my Rodan+Fields business partners and I’m pumped for a great productive week!  A quote I need to write down before I forget is:  You can never say the wrong thing to the right person…and you can never say the right thing to the wrong person!  I love that!  It makes so much sense when approaching people about this business…the right people are just waiting to hear SOMETHING about it…even if it’s not the PERFECT information…but the best I know to share!

So, my week ahead is full of ideas…walking with my diet buddy 3 days, already scheduled…talking to at least 5 people every day…working with my downline to help them do the same…and recruiting at least one new consultant this week!  I can feel my confidence rising.   Finally.

As for real estate…I did meet with clients today…a pre-listing appointment of their condo they’ll sell before moving into their new house we’re building.  I need to follow up with some real estate leads this week as well.

God, continue to provide our every need.  Prosper every step I take, every word that comes out of my mouth.  Give me incredible favor with every person I contact or who contacts me.  Bless my efforts and bring abundance into my life this week!  Amen.

The Titans lost to the Ravens tonight…and deservedly so.  Three interceptions.  Ugh.  Since I no longer have cable (as of Wednesday…I had it turned off to cut costs!), I watched most of the game online.  I found this crazy blog where a guy had his web cam on his TV and the game streaming over the internet!  Of course, until the NFL cops found it and blocked it!!!  So, I spent the entire game finding different places to watch bits and pieces.  Missed the last 56 seconds of the game.  I hear I didn’t miss much.  Oh well.

So I have been on facebook talking with my ex-boyfriend’s daughter.  She’s a sweetie and we’ve kept in touch all these years…he and I broke up in ‘06.  I told her tonight that I still miss him and wondered why I still do after all this time.  Couldn’t believe I actually said it.  And to her…of all people.  But I did, because I do…and I miss her, too.  Anyway, we talked about that for a few minutes…she offered no insight into what he’s doing these days, but said you never know…ugh.  I was in the kitchen this morning cutting veggies…using the knife I bought with him, on the cutting board I bought with him.  We cooked together all the time.  I really miss that.  He was a great friend…confidant.  But he broke my heart terribly.  And for some reason I can’t remember all of why or how.  I just remember he did.  And I know I miss him.  Still.
